Around the world, ports are overloaded and therefore part of delivery congestion. As a result, many imported goods are piling up on international coasts, leading to higher freight rates. The so-called World Container Index rose by 360 percent within one year. For a 40-foot container, that means a cost of just under $10,000 for the route from Europe to the U.S. or Asia.
China in particular has been affected by rising freight rates as it has repeatedly closed its ports due to the Corona policy. Thus, there is no reduction in sight for the near future either.
